South Pass Overlook
The South Pass Overlook is a BLM interpretive site with views of several trail landmarks, along with historical signs that tell their stories. The overlook is 5.3 miles southwest of South Pass Rest Area on the east side of Wyoming Highway 28. The alternative backcountry route described above leaves the wagon trail and rejoins the highway here.
Editor’s note: Directions to the South Pass monuments and overlook sites are from the National Park Service’s National Historic Trails Auto Tour Route Interpretive Guide Across Wyoming, pp.64-66. Used with thanks.
